Ottogi Spaghetti Ramen (South Korea)

For today’s instant ramen (or ramyun rather) review, we will be trying out the Ottogi Spaghetti Ramen (Korean: 오뚜기 스파게티) from South Korea. In previous months, we had tried out Chapagetti-flavored ones from Nongshim, so we will be curious to see how this one tastes. Our previous Ottogi reviews can also be found here.

As usual, we kick off our review with the photos of the cup and packaging.

The contents of the bowl are shown below.

The bowl contains the noodle block, a sachet of seasoning powder, a sachet of seasoning sauce and a garnish pack.

To prepare the “spaghetti”, pour in boiling water into the bowl and let it cook for 3-4 minutes. Then drain it using the convenient perforated holes that can be peeled open as shown below.

Once the water has been drained, mix in the contents of the sachets into the bowl and mix thoroughly. We added a single mini chicken frank to complete the dish.

Verdict

Lovers of Korean ramyun will enjoy the wheat flour noodles here. They had the typical thickness and chewiness that one would have come to expect from a Korean ramyun. The sauce is very different from the Nongshim Chapagetti-flavored noodles we had mentioned above. The Nongshim ones use Chajang sauce as the base whereas the base for this one is a sweet tomato pasta sauce.

The pasta sauce is similar to the sweet Filipino style spaghetti sauce. Lovers of actual Italian pasta will find the sweetness a tad overwhelming. Kids on the other hand will love this. So do keep this handy in the pantry if you have a fussy eater at home.

Overall we give the Ottogi Spaghetti Ramen a score of zero chilis and 3.5 stars.
